The process of the Mesabi trail took began almost ten years ago, maybe longer, and it was Lead by St. Louis and St. County, the Regional Railroad Authority the Mesabi trail was born. The communities wanted to convert dead railways or other property into trails. It took the help of volunteers, sponsors, individuals, and trail enthusiasts to bring the trail together. The Trail offers scenery, activities, culture and wildlife[1]

The Mesabi Trail is located between Ely and Grand Rapids in northern Minnesota. Once the trail is done it will be 132 miles and connect with 25 communities. In 2011 115 miles will be completed and there will be a variety of entry points. Once completed it will also be on of the longest paved trails in the United States. [2]
